Ask Congress to Support Solar Energy!
October 28, 2007
Dear Citizenre Ecopreneurs:
With help from many of you, earlier this year both houses of Congress passed energy legislation that supported solar solutions. This was terrific progress.
Since the House and Senate passed different bills, however, with different provisions, a compromise process is needed. This process is underway right now, and there is no guarantee that the solar provisions we need will be included.
Let’s act again, NOW. Citizenre’s 1,400 associates and over 24,000 customers represent a powerful national constituency for solar solutions. Let’s make sure that the solar industry gets strong support in the final Energy Bill.
Please contact your Congressional Representatives, via the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) Action Alert. Use your own letter or the draft SEIA has prepared, but please tell your reps how you feel.
| Here are specific points you might make: |
| - |
Support extending the 30% commercial investment tax credit for solar; |
| - |
Support extending the 30% residential tax credit for solar; |
| - |
Support for all measures in the final Energy Bill that will strengthen the US solar industry. |
The overarching point. There is a major shift underway in this country. It is one that could be lost on Congress unless we make it abundantly clear. The solar industry is growing now, at last, because people want clean, renewable energy over other energy solutions. Tax policy should reflect this priority.
Many interests will try to water down the solar provisions in this compromise bill. Nuclear and “clean coal” have been suggested as “renewable”. Others will argue that historical fossil fuel subsidies should be maintained, even while these small solar incentives are “too expensive”.
Make your voice heard on this critical priority decision:
What form of energy should Congress and this country support with your tax dollars?
Please express your preferences to all your representatives. Let them know that you want an Energy Bill with strong supports for clean, renewable energy.
Please forward this link to your family, friends and prospective as well as current customers – the sustainable energy future relies on strong, supportive clean energy policy. Let’s make this happen!
